Cows, Sheep and Pigs raised on the Cornish Coast
The farm produces a large amount of high quality beef, lamb and pork all raised outdoors on a mixture of permanent pasture and improved herbal and flower rich grassland. At Pendower Farm we pride ourselves on using a limited amount artificial fertiliser or sprays, farming in a way that is good for the environment and our animals.
On the farm we have a herd of 40 South Devon Cattle producing high quality grass fed beef. The herd spend most of the year grazing the fields over looking Gerrans Bay. The cows typically produce 1 calf each year who remain with their mums for around 9 months before being weaned and left to fatten at their own speed generally at around 24-30 months old.
The cows share the farm with a flock of 500 Dorset ewes. The ewes lamb from late February to the end of March.
We also have a small herd of Cornish black pigs that produce pork solely for the shop. The pigs are an old native breed that are suited to living outside in all weathers.
